How do I transfer configuration backups?

Published by eKeypad on

There are several methods available to help you transfer configuration backups from one device to another.

  1. The first method uses the iTunes application and the USB cable for your mobile device. This method does not require a Wifi or cellular connection of any kind.Any time your iOS device is attached to your computer you will see an icon representing your device. Make sure it is selected. When it is selected you will find eKeypad listed under the “Apps” section. (Note this is not the global “Apps” list but a sub-item accessible under the device.) On the bottom half of this screen is a section labeled “File Sharing” where you can copy configuration backups to and from the device.
  2. The second method uses the email capability in the iOS device. This method does not require physical access to the port on the device or connectivity to the local Wifi network. This option will not be available if email is not setup on the iOS device.Touching a configuration backup in eKeypad will list several options. If email is configured for the built in mail app on the device one of the options will be to email the backup file. If no email is setup on the device the email option will not be listed.
  3. The third method uses a Wifi network to directly share a configuration backup from one copy of eKeypad to another. This method does not require physical access to the port  or email to be setup on the device. This option will not be available if both iOS devices are not connected to the same Wifi network. The first step is to share an existing configuration backup from the source device. Touching a configuration backup in eKeypad will list several options. If the device is connected to a Wifi network one of the options will be to share the backup file. If the device is not connected to Wifi the share option will not be listed. eKeypad will display a message telling you that the file has been shared and the name of the Wifi network it is sharing the file on.The second step is to import the configuration backup into the target device. On the configuration backup screen in eKeypad there is an Import Shared Backup link. if the device is connected to the same Wifi network as the source device then this screen will list the shared backup within a few seconds. Touch on the backup to copy it to the target devices. Note this step only copies the backup file; it does not restore the backup.

It is always a good idea to keep a configuration backup stored off of your device using one of the methods listed above. In the event you have to replace your iOS device it will be much easier to restore from a backup.
